Stand up tanning beds, many people believe, give a better tan than conventional beds. Why?

The main reason is the type of lamp that is used. Stand up tanning beds use lights equipped with special reflectors that diffuse the light in such a way that the rays are distributed in a more consistent manner over your entire body.

In addition, the bulbs used in stand up beds are generally 50% higher wattage than conventional tanning bed bulbs. This means that a shorter session will give you the same benefit as a longer session on a vertical bed.

Even though stand up tanning beds employ stronger bulbs, you are not exposed to greater harmful UVB and UVA rays because your tanning sessions are briefer, making the health risks identical.

Admittedly, some people get tired during a tanning session using a stand up tanning bed, and may find it boring.  Others, however, prefer the shorter sessions.

Many sun lovers find they tan more evenly using a stand up tanning bed. The reason? Their body does not come into contact with anything while they are tanning. Traditional tanning tables create “pressure points” where the skin touches the table surface. These individuals find those “pressure points” do not tan as evenly as the rest of their body.

A stand up tanning bed is not only more mobile, but it also allows you more mobility.

Generally speaking, a stand up bed is easier to store – most will fit in a closet, or may be tucked away in a corner. Conventional beds, however, take up much more room because of their vertical design.

There is a personal hygiene plus for stand up tanning beds. Many people do not like the feel of lying on a hard surface. Some feel it is unsanitary, particularly if you are tanning in the nude.  True or not, with a stand up tanning bed the problem is eliminated completely.
